Michael was that guy.
The one that everyone was cautious of. Maybe it was the tattoos. Maybe it was the way he gave off a ‘don’t screw with me’ vibe. Maybe it was because he just told them to leave him the hell alone.
Regardless, people gave him his space.
He was screwed up, and everyone knew it.
He got tattoos because he liked the pain. He was standoffish. He didn’t have many friends outside of work. And the only thing he had going for him was that he was a good cop.
Everyone wondered about him, but no one asked.
The only one that didn’t treat him as if he was screwed up was Nikki Pena, a woman that he couldn’t have.
Nikki was that girl.
The one that everyone loved.
The one girl that he’d destroy if he let her have her way. What did she want?
But, he couldn’t give her him. She didn’t deserve what it would take to be with him.
So Michael would suffer in silence…or so he thought.
Before I even start on my review for this book I’d like to say how much I love the quotes the author includes before each chapter. Case in point, “I licked it. So it’s mine.” These quotes are one of the most hilarious things about LLV’s books. I always make it a point to read them. No skimming for me.
On to the review….
Michael Alvarez. Any fan of the SWAT series has been waiting, as I have, for Michael’s story. We know he’s bi-polar. We know he’s completely covered in tattoos. [not like Lil’ Wayne] And thanks to Kill Shot we know that he is in love with Nico’s sister Nikki. We don’t have to step through the motions of Michael falling for Nikki and vice versa. They’re already there. We know that there is a slutty nurse working at the same hospital as Nikki making her life a living Hell. And finally, we also know that Michael broke up with Nikki [ kinda sorta :Kanye shrug:] because he didn’t want to have kids that could possibly be bi-polar.
I had no expectations going in to this book and I am glad because it made the story that much sweeter. Nikki and Bad Nikki, her evil personality haha, are hilarious. Case in point, she got steamed at Michael and stole his truck. I almost peed my pants I laughed so hard.
There are so many things going on in this book and they’re all equally awesome.
· Joslin is with Michael’s brother (YES, can you believe it), but still tricking and treating with every available dick in the hospital
· There’s an insane serial killer after pregnant women
· Michael walking on eggshells because of his bipolar disorder
· Nikki dealing with Joslin using her popular vag to get her in trouble at work.
I loved this book.
I loved Nikki's personality and how deeply she loved Michael. I loved Michael's misguided desire to remove himself from Nikki's life so that she could be happy. These two are meant for each other. I think the main reason I loved this book so much was because of Michael and how flawed he thought he was. I enjoyed how the reader was able to get inside of his head and experience his highs and his lows and to see how Nikki dealt with these situations as well.
Every book in this SWAT series contains a heroine that I would love to be best friends with and a sexy guy that I would love to have hook me up with one of his friends.
I LOVED THIS BOOK.
I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.
